A Powerful Unexpected Voice for Kids in Uganda

Sara Watson, Global Director of ReadyNation, and Godwin Othieno, a program design officer with Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PFSU), discuss in Devex their joint efforts between PSFU and ReadyNation to establish a business network in Uganda that advocates for public investment in early childhood education.

The collaborative work between ReadyNation and PSFU has yielded the attention of policymakers, including the Ugandan finance minister, who described early childhood investment as an “economically sound investment strategy for the future.” Since the establishment of this business network, Uganda increased the percentage of its federal budget spent on the ministry of education from 11.1 percent to 12 percent, and their minister of education has called for a pre-primary classroom in every primary school.

Young children everywhere can have powerful allies who will help give them the foundation they need to succeed in life.
