Strong Economy

Too Many Workers Don't Have the Right Skills

The challenges facing the economy are different than they were 20 years ago. American businesses and state governments face economic uncertainty, new technologies are changing the nature of our workforce, and globalization is making the U.S. more susceptible to economic turmoil worldwide. Meanwhile, a nagging “skills gap” is causing employers to struggle to find fully prepared and well-educated workers for today’s jobs.

In the coming years, policymakers will have to make tough decisions to grow our economy. To ensure a strong workforce into the future, Council for a Strong America is urging a greater focus on practical and evidence-based improvements to our nation’s early education, K-12, and higher education systems.
