Jonathan Elkin

Vice President of External Affairs

Jonathan Elkin joined Council for a Strong America as Vice President of External Affairs in 2022. Previously, Jonathan served as Vice President of Public Policy at Council for Opportunity in Education, where he expanded bipartisan support for college access programs for first-generation and low-income students. Earlier, Jonathan helped build consensus with teachers, parents, child care providers, and school leaders on P-12 policy and grants at DC’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education.

On Capitol Hill, Jonathan served for six years as Senator Mazie Hirono’s legislative assistant for education and family policy, where he first worked with Council for a Strong America on early childhood education legislation in 2011. He also served his hometown Rep. Howard Berman of Los Angeles.

Before policy work, Jonathan taught middle school math in the South Bronx, New York. He holds a master’s degree in teaching from Pace University and a bachelor’s in Public Policy from Stanford.
