More Preschool Will Help Fight Crime

Why law enforcement leaders say early education is crucial for getting kids on the right path

While preschool is a place for toddlers to learn their ABCs, some of Illinois’ top law enforcement officials see a different benefit: crime prevention, reports the Chicago Tribune’s Alicia Fabbre.

In an effort to educate policymakers on the need to support increased preschool, Plainfield Police Chief John Konopek, Elwood Police Chief Fred Hayes, Shorewood Police Chief Aaron Klima, and Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis visited Bonnie McBeth Early Learning Center in Plainfield, IL.

The law enforcement leaders of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids were joined by two Illinois policymakers—state Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant and Representative Mark Batinick—who agreed that quality early education is crucial for getting kids on the right path in life and avoid criminal behavior.
