Strengthening public safety by reducing childhood poverty in the Ocean State

In 2016, Rhode Island lawmakers were busy debating issues ranging from criminal justice reform to taxes. With the backing of our law enforcement leaders in Rhode Island, one of the issues that made headway in the state legislature was an Earned Income Tax Credit for working families. The tax credit will help to reduce the small state’s relatively high child poverty rate, which is at 20%, up from 15% in 2008.
