Promoting expanded access to high-quality preschool in the Tar Heel state

One of the lesser-known accomplishments of North Carolina’s 2016 legislature was a $1.3 million investment in the state’s preschool program. Our law enforcement and retired military leaders in North Carolina backed that change, highlighting the connection between quality preschool, less crime, and increased military eligibility. The investment is a small step toward increasing access to North Carolina’s preschool program, one of the top programs in the nation, which currently enrolls about 20 percent of the state’s four-year-olds.
