Improving Mississippi's education system to reduce crime

Mississippi faced a budget shortfall in 2016, resulting in cuts to education funding for the eighth year in a row. As a result, Mississippi schools will have fewer resources to boost student achievement and graduation rates―which are the lowest in the country. Our members in Mississippi are informing state lawmakers that such outcomes can be avoided with evidence-based approaches to education, such as high-quality preschool programs and school safety policies that reduce suspensions.
