Members in Action: Maine

Our members in Maine know that high-quality early childhood programs make communities safer and get kids on the right track

Our Fight Crime: Invest in Kids members in Maine know that investments in high-quality early childhood programs, such as preschool and home visiting, make our communities safer and get kids on the right track in life. These law enforcement leaders have shared evidence-based research on early childhood education and other proven programs with state lawmakers through public events at local schools and closed door meetings.

“We are all committed to getting ahead of the crime curve and to do that education needs to be a focal point of any crime prevention strategy,” says member and Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce. “When 54% of our prisoners have less than a high school education, the path forward is pretty clear. Making sure all Maine kids get the right start in life with high-quality early education is one of the best crime prevention tools we have.”
