Police Chiefs to Florida Legislators: Healthcare Expansion is a Public Safety Matter

In June 2015, the law enforcement leaders of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids in Florida sent a letter to the Florida state legislature, encouraging policymakers to use federal funds to extend health insurance to low-income citizens. The letter states that “mental illness and substance abuse problems left untreated result in a much higher likelihood of individuals committing a crime.”
