Department of Commerce Briefs ReadyNation Members on Federal Workforce Innovations

Business leaders from across the country attended a session with the DOC to learn more about federal initiatives around America’s changing workforce

On Thursday, June 22nd, representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Public Affairs, Jade Cabrera and Patrick Hobart, held a briefing call with dozens of ReadyNation business executives from across the nation.

The high-level briefing included information about:

  • Manufacturing and Innovation
  • People & Communities
  • International Engagement & National Security
  • Women in the Workforce

Patrick Hobart discussed the CHIPS and Science Act that would include child care provisions and employee supports to maintain and grow the workforce. It also provides incentives to encourage the creation of U.S. facilities and equipment. This, along with tech hubs throughout the country, are intended to expand American enterprise and keep our nation globally competitive.

The Department of Commerce also shared their plans to ensure broadband internet access across the country. As ReadyNation members know, broadband access helps narrow the “digital divide” among school-aged children and gives them more opportunities to learn new skills.

The presentation concluded with an emphasis on investing in minority business development and women in the workforce. The Department of Commerce is prioritizing programs and wrap-around services, like affordable child care, to allow equitable access to the workforce.

This briefing call marked the first of many partnerships between the U.S. Department of Commerce and ReadyNation. ReadyNation business leaders will continue to help inform policy that supports families, the workforce, and America’s economy.
