MAP: Many Young Americans are Ineligible to Serve in the Military

More than 70% of young adults can't qualify for military service. How does your state rank?

According to the Department of Defense, 71 percent of all young Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 are unable to join the military, primarily for three reasons:

  1. They are too poorly educated.
  2. They are too overweight.
  3. They have a record of crime or drug abuse.
