Obesity Problem Impacts Missouri's Young People

Here, the St. Joseph News-Press wrote an article about Mission: Readiness’ report, Retreat is Not an Option, which highlighted data from the report that shows 72 percent of young Missourians are ineligible for military service, mostly as a result of obesity.

The article quoted Brig. Gen. John Schmader, a retired Army officer and Mission: Readiness member, who said:

No change is easy, certainly when you talk about nutrition. It’s a matter of helping the youth of our nation.

Other Missouri school districts are encouraged to make similar changes to school meals as in the St. Joseph School District, which was an early adopter of healthier school foods.
