WASHINGTON, D.C. — Council for a Strong America President and CEO Barry Ford, J.D., released this statement in response to President Biden’s signing of an executive order on child care:

“Council for a Strong America applauds President Biden for signing an executive order aimed at lowering the cost of child care for working families and supporting early educators. The child care crisis has continued to worsen, inflicting damage on parents, employers, and taxpayers. Our ReadyNation report from February shows the impact on our nation’s economy of failing to address the child care crisis, just for infants and toddlers, has risen from $57 billion in 2018 to a new high of $122 billion in lost earnings, productivity, and revenue each year. With the rollout of this executive order, the Biden Administration is shining a necessary spotlight on the crisis facing our nation’s child care system. This year saw a record number of U.S. Representatives in both parties publicly support early childhood funding, and we hope that members of both political parties in Congress will continue to work together to ensure Americans have greater access to high-quality child care.”
