Law Enforcement and Youth Talk About Mutual Respect [VIDEO]

Police and teens help bridge the divide between youth and law enforcement

In Mississippi, law enforcement leaders, including Fight Crime: Invest in Kids member Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance, talk with local young people about strategies to help bridge the current divide between youth and police. They also discuss developing solutions for effective and culturally appropriate policing in communities of color.

The video touches on five key themes that foster positive police/youth interactions:

  1. Mutual respect
  2. De-escalation and not escalation
  3. Understanding cultural differences
  4. Building trust
  5. Understanding that each one of us is human
