Child Care

Parents are children’s first and most important teachers. However, two-thirds of children under the age of 6 have both parents or their single parent in the workforce, and need a safe and stimulating environment. In many states, infant care costs more than in-state college tuition.

Congress doubled funding for the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) program in 2018. However, state and federal support for child care is the lowest that it has been in a decade, and too many families still lack access to good, affordable care. Council for a Strong America supports greater access to high-quality child care to provide children with a strong foundation in life and improve parents’ productivity on the job.
