Statement from Barry Ford on Organizational Response to COVID-19

Barry D. Ford, J.D.

Dear Colleagues,

In response to the evolving public health emergency resulting from the COVID-19 virus, Council for a Strong America (CSA) announces that, as of today, March 13, 2020, our staff will be teleworking in an effort to mitigate the spread and effects of the virus. This applies to staff in our national office in Washington, D.C., as well as staff in our state offices across the country.

The telework policy will extend at least until March 27th, at which time we will evaluate whether continued social distancing is appropriate. In doing so, we will continue to rely on guidance from health officials, including guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In addition, we are implementing a no-travel policy through the end of April. All CSA-run events that require travel by our staff and/or members will be postponed indefinitely, and we will endeavor to use online/remote alternatives for all near-term activities where feasible.

The safety and health of our members—retired admirals and generals, law enforcement leaders, business executives, pastors, and elite athletes and coaches—and staff are of paramount concern to us, and we believe these steps are in the best interests of all concerned, and in the best interests of our nation.

With that said, the important work of ensuring that the next generation of Americans have the best opportunity to grow up well-educated, physically fit, and prepared for productive lives is as crucial as ever. Our work to advocate on behalf of evidence-based policies that help kids while enhancing public safety, strengthening national security, and bolstering our workforce will continue in earnest.

Please let us know if you have any questions about these temporary measures, or about CSA’s work moving forward.
