Fight Crime: Invest in Kids 25th Anniversary - Partnering with the Afterschool Alliance

In 2019, Council for a Strong America CEO Barry Ford partnered with Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Jodi Grant to share new afterschool research

Nineteen years after Fight Crime: Invest in Kids released a research report on afterschool hours being “The Prime Time for Juvenile Crime,” the organization released another report on the benefits of investing in afterschool programming.

In 2019, Fight Crime: Invest in Kids released the report, entitled From Risk to Opportunity: Afterschool Programs Keep Kids Safe When Juvenile Justice Peaks. The report was released with the help of the Afterschool Alliance and focused on the benefits of afterschool programs in putting kids on paths to success and away from crime. This newer report allowed Fight Crime: Invest in Kids to dive deeper into juvenile crime data in each of the 50 states and to highlight the positive effect federal afterschool funding has had on reducing juvenile crime.

In addition to this report, in 2019, Council for a Strong America CEO Barry Ford joined Jodi Grant, Executive Director of the Afterschool Alliance in a national radio tour that was aired on 603 different channels and had approximately 17,781,226 impressions. And, in October, as part of the Lights On Afterschool campaign, Fight Crime: Invest in Kids participated in 11 events across 10 states, reaching millions of Americans.

In the video below, Jodi Grant expands on the integral role Fight Crime: Invest in Kids and the 2019 report have played in promoting investments in afterschool.
