Paralympians Blake Haxton & Casey Followay Promote Deeper Learning

Deeper learning concepts help people with or without disabilities reach their maximum potential

Deeper learning is an essential way to help students with disabilities achieve advanced education, quality jobs, and life success.

That was the key takeaway from the Champions for America’s Future event on August 3, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. Partnering with the Governor’s Council for Individuals with Disabilities Youth Leadership Forum (YLF), Champions members Paralympian Blake Haxton (Rowing) and Paralympian hopeful Casey Followay (Track) discussed the importance of deeper learning concepts in helping people with—or without—disabilities reach their maximum potential.

After the remarks from Haxton, Followay, and Governor’s Cabinet Director for Developmental Disabilities Kevin Miller, students participated in Paralympic-style sporting events. Cheered on by the Paralympians, the students worked together collaboratively to succeed, which is itself a core competency of deeper learning.
