School Discipline

More than 3 million students are suspended out of school each year, and more than 100,000 are expelled. These youth are at an increased risk of crime, and are three times more likely to enter the juvenile justice system than their peers. Recognizing this risk, state and local leaders from Mississippi to California are adopting alternatives to suspensions and expulsions for minor infractions. Council for a Strong America’s law enforcement leaders are informing decision-makers about the link between appropriate school discipline policies and crime prevention.
