Food Insecurity and Child Nutrition

Five years ago, the typical school lunch menu included pizza, chicken nuggets, and French fries. Today, schools across the country are serving healthier food as a result of science-based school nutrition standards that were aimed at quelling the childhood obesity epidemic in America. As Congress considers the reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Program, Council for a Strong America is educating lawmakers about the impact of healthy school food on national security. Currently, excess weight disqualifies nearly one-third of all young adults from military service.
